ICELAND ESSENTIAL PACKING TIP: The "Three-Layer Rule"
ICELAND : ESSENTIAL PACKING TIP:
The "Three-Layer Rule"

Hey fellow cruisers! As you get ready for your summer adventure to Iceland, there is one thing you need to know about the weather: Iceland doesn't do "summer" like the rest of the world. Even in July, you can experience sun, wind, rain, and near-freezing mist all in the same afternoon. If you want to enjoy those pre-booked excursions without shivering, you MUST dress in these three layers:
1. The Base Layer (The "Stay Dry" Layer)
• Wear: Synthetic moisture-wicking shirts or Merino wool.
• Avoid: 100% Cotton. If cotton gets wet from sweat or rain, it stays cold and heavy.
2. The Mid Layer (The "Stay Warm" Layer)
• Wear: A fleece jacket, a wool sweater, or a light "puffer" vest/jacket.
• Why: This traps your body heat. If the sun comes out, this is usually what you'll be walking around in!
3. The Outer Shell (The "Shield" Layer)
• Wear: A completely waterproof and windproof hooded jacket (and rain pants if you’re heading to waterfalls!).
• Why: "Water-resistant" isn't enough for Iceland. Between the Atlantic wind and the spray from waterfalls like Skógafoss, you need a true barrier to stay dry.
Pro Tip for the Deck: Even if it looks sunny from your cabin window, the wind chill on a moving ship or a coastal pier is intense. Bring a warm beanie and gloves in your day pack—you’ll thank me when we’re out on the water looking for whales!
